What we keep, and for how long

You can use all of Ask Around without an account. Signing in with Shop only carries your Saved and lists to your other devices and fills in checkout for you.

• A random browser idOne cookie (aa_sid) holding a random value. It says nothing about you; it is the key your cart, Saved and lists are filed under while you are a guest.30 days
• Your cartThe products and variants you added and from which shop. Prices and stock are asked of each shop again every time you open it, so no shop listing is stored with it.14 days
• Saved and your listsProduct and variant ids, the price you saw when you saved, your notes and list titles. Kept against your browser id as a guest, or against a one-way hash of your Shop id when signed in.30 days as a guest, a year when signed in
• Share linksWhen you share a list we keep a short code pointing at it. Stop sharing and the code stops working; share again and you get a new one.A year, or until you stop sharing
• A record of each stepSearched, viewed, added, checkout started, order placed: keyed to the browser id, so we can tell a shop how many orders came from here. An order counts only when the shop answers with its order id.90 days
• Sign in with ShopIf you sign in, Shop gives us a token for your Shop account. It sits in an encrypted, httpOnly cookie (aa_shop) in your browser, not in our database. Signing out deletes it.30 days
• Where you ship toOne cookie (aa_country) with a two-letter country code, so prices and stock come from the right market.Until you change it

What we never keep

• Your card number. Payment goes from your Shop Pay wallet to each shop; it never passes through us.
• Shop listings. Every price, rating and stock level is read live from Shopify’s catalog when a page opens.
• Your name, email or address. Shop holds those; checkout asks Shop for them when you place an order.
• Anything sold or handed to advertisers. There are no ad trackers on this site.
